Individual and Family Health Plans

Plan Type:

The extended health care plan includes the following benefits:
  • Vision Care
  • Registered therapists
  • Hospital
  • Ambulance
  • Private nursing
  • Out of Province, In-Canada travel
  • Medical services and supplies
  • Accidental dental
  • Accidental death and dismemberment
  • Final expense benefit
  • Survivor benefit.
If your benefit coverage under a PBC recognized Canadian group benefit plan is lost due to retirement, downsizing or a change of employment, you can apply for coverage under our Conversion priviledge.

Provided you qualify, we will cover pre-existing medical conditions under the Health Plans and waive the waiting periods for vision care and dental or denture coverage.

Family Status:

Single rate is for one person, couple rate is for two persons and family rate is for three or more persons.

Plan Options

The Essential drug option covers 80% of the cost of PharmaCare-eligible prescription drugs. This is an increasing benefit coverage up to a predetermined maximum.

The Enhanced drug option covers 80% of the cost of PharmaCare-eligible prescription drugs, plus prescriptions that are not eligible under the government PharmaCare plan also. This is an increasing benefit coverage option up to a predetermined maximum.

The Enhanced drug option includes a Direct Pay Drug card. With a Direct Pay Drug card, your pharmacist submits your claim electronically. PBC pays the pharmacy 80% of your prescription cost, and you pay the pharmacist the remaining 20%. There is no need to submit a paper claim.

The Individual Dental Plan can be purchased by itself or as an add-on to an existing Blue Cross group health benefit.
The Essential dental plan covers eligible expenses after a three-month no-claims waiting period (waiting period is waived on Group Conversion plans), up to a predetermined maximum. Eligible expenses include:
  • Diagnostic expenses
  • Preventive treatments
  • Restorative treatments
  • Periodontal cleaning
  • Prosthodontic services
  • Oral surgery
In addition, the plan covers emergency treatment of the above services while temporarily outside of BC or the Yukon. There is no financial limit on the amount that will be paid for the services covered over the lifetime of the plan.

The Enhanced dental plan covers all of the Essential dental benefits with the addition of major restorative services, up to a combined predetermined maximum.

The plan covers 50% of eligible expenses incurred after 12 consecutive months on the plan. The maximum amount payable for major restorative services is limited to $500 for each covered person every calendar year.

Additional eligible expenses include:
  • Major Restorative services
  • Endodontics
  • Orthodontic coverage.
Waiting period is waived on Group Conversion plans.
